Hello Neighbors,

My name is Donna Volpone and I am running for the Fairlington Villages

board to represent my Ward II neighbors. Some of you already know me as

the resident who has been planting a pollinator garden in front of our

apartment building on S. Buchanan Street. I have been so inspired by your

kind words of encouragement!

My husband and I moved here eight years ago to be near our daughter and her family.  We looked at MANY communities before deciding that Fairlington felt most like home.  Shortly after we moved to Virginia, our younger daughter joined us and adopted her shelter dog so we are now "dog grandparents" along with being grandparents to two grandsons.  

Here in Fairlington, I have been an active member of several committees including Grounds and SCOPAC. I was also a member of last year’s election panel. I take pride in the “behinds the scenes” work that I have done and want to continue to be an advocate for positive change. Of particular interest to me is eliminating chemicals that are being used on our landscape and

development of a long-term plan that will be good for the environment and save us money. That plan should include a survey of our trees by a qualified arborist and alternatives to how we currently deal with leaves and our soil. We have been making progress with our use of native plants, lets’s continue to expand that approach.

As a member of SCOPAC, I have been involved in research to determine if egress window should be allowed in Fairlington Villages. My own conclusion is a strong, “YES”. This is not only a safety issue but an economic one as well. I am convinced that many families leave our community because that do not feel that it is safe to put their children in a basement bedroom. I am hopeful that the board will approve this change and look at other changes that will make our community safer and competitive.
